Why Vinyl & What is it

Vinyl windows aren't anything new to the market. But most of their recent popularity can be attributed to the material’s high energy efficiency.

Vinyl windows aren't anything new to the market. But most of their recent popularity can be attributed to the material’s high energy efficiency.

Any vinyl product is eco-friendly because of its composition of abundant and renewable resources. Vinyl is durable, at an affordable cost, and most importantly, environmentally friendly. Here are a couple of benefits that we value from vinyl windows.

Proven energy performance with vinyl windows
The popularity of vinyl windows comes from the material’s high energy efficiency. For any sized building, heating and cooling is usually the largest expense. Vinyl windows help keep heat in and cold air out in the winter, and vice versa in the summer. With high-quality and properly installed windows, your heating and air conditioning units don't have to work as hard to maintain the desired temperature, so you conserve energy and save money.

At Minnkota Windows, our vinyl windows meet the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Star® performance standards. Heating and cooling is the largest expense for most buildings. Vinyl windows keep heated and cooled air inside your home. Tests using the common measure of insulating ability, the U-Factor, have shown that vinyl windows regularly outperform other products because of the frame's excellent thermal performance. Your heating and air conditioning units don't have to work as hard to maintain the desired temperature, so you conserve energy - and save money.

Vinyl is resistant to almost everything
Energy-efficient vinyl windows save money on heating and cooling bills. Quality vinyl windows also improve condensation and fog issues many homeowners see on their glass. Vinyl windows are resistant to mold, mildew, rot, corrosion, blistering, flaking, and insect infestation.
In addition, heavy rain or a quick wash will keep vinyl windows clean and in tiptop condition.

Vinyl windows are low maintenance
Vinyl windows are a relief for many homeowners from the constant upkeep that previous window materials required. But what makes vinyl virtually maintenance-free?

No painting is necessary. There is no need to paint vinyl because your choice of pigment is added during the formulation process. We suggest not painting your vinyl window products as this will void your warranty. With no paint, you won't experience any surface coating issues like chipping or scratching for vinyl frames.

Easy to clean. You may wash the window frame and sash with a mixture of mild dish soap and water. Do not use abrasive or caustic solvents as they may damage the vinyl. With our vinyl windows, there is no chemical treatment or expertise required.

Here is how we recommend cleaning the glass on your vinyl windows.
    1. Use a premixed vinegar-based cleaning solution (or make your own with one part
    vinegar to ten parts water)
    2. Apply to a soft, clean, lint-free microfiber cloth or paper towel.
    3. You may also use an ammonia-free glass cleaner such as Windex (clear liquid) or
    Sparkle (purple liquid).

Do not use glass cleaners that are ammonia or alcohol-based. They may leave streaks or produce a film that attracts moisture or dust.
